New Year, New House?

Okay, well not an actual new house but the insides will surely be different! I’ve been really researching the word “fragrance” in the products we have at home and use every single day and I've been shocked to be honest. How, in my 33 years on this planet, have I not heard about all the disgusting and toxic things that can be in our products that are all hidden in the word fragrance? Yep, hidden because each company can claim it’s specific fragrance as proprietary information and they don’t have to disclose that to you, me, or anyone. I did some more research and found that in each item in my home that listed “fragrance” as an ingredient had on average 14 secret chemicals in them! FOURTEEN, people! 80% of those chemicals aren’t tested for safety on humans. I read that statistic here and there is so much more information over there, too, so check it out!

I couldn’t believe what I had willingly been putting in and on my body and the little bodies of my kiddos that I was responsible for! Ugh, I hate science sometimes. How can something that smells so good and looks so pretty in it’s bottle be so bad for us? So many of the secret chemicals that are allowed to be used can trigger migraines, flare up and cause allergy symptoms, asthma, chronic lung disease, and so many other issues. I could go on and on, but I’m no scientist or doctor and don’t want to say the wrong thing here so I’ll move on.

So how am I changing the inside of our house? I made the decision to literally get rid of everything that had the ingredient of fragrance in it. Okay, maybe not immediately ever single thing was changed but most things, the products I used daily on my kids and on me, I threw out or donated right away. When I was going through all of our products I was pretty surprised when id find fragrance in items that were clearly labelled and marketed as all natural and plant derived and all. I was just taking for granted that I was being told the truth. I got rid of everything, guys… window cleaner, toilet cleaner, bathroom and household cleaners, body washes, shampoos, conditioners, lotions, hair spray, all kinds of makeup, perfumes, nail polishes, laundry detergents, dryer sheets (omgosh, look up dryer sheets!), fabric and room sprays, candles and melts…SO many things!

What am I replacing all those nasty products with? Essential oils. Yep you read that right and know now that I am NOT here to sell you oils. I’m not about that life. I use Young Living oils and know that I can trust everything that comes from them, it’s safe, non-toxic, and natural! I use Thieves cleaner mixed with water for every single surface in our home now, even windows, and it cleans so well and smells so good. I use Lemon oil in the kitchen and bathrooms along with Orange oil and a blend called Purification (my favorite scent!). I’ve made my own facial lotion, shampoo + conditioner, laundry detergent, lotion, and diffuse my oils instead of burning candles. Instead of using dryer sheets I now use a wool ball with a couple drops of my either Purification, Lavender, or another yummy smelling oil on it.

I’ll be sharing more and more about my new love of oils and how it’s allowed me to keep our family healthier while at the same time saving money and minimizing the things we have in our house which in turn helps with my anxiety! If you DO want to learn more about the oils I love so much you can visit here or shoot me an email!
