Our Visit To The Eighth Wonder Of The World
First and foremost, a little background on the grounds we stayed at! The West Baden Springs Hotel is also known as The Eighth Wonder of the World, pretty cool right?! YES! It dates all the way back to the 1800s to capitalize on the mineral springs in the area. It had burned down, has been rebuilt and remodeled and without going into a history lesson, in 1994 the grounds were sold and reconstruction began. With the completion of the West Baden Springs Hotel restoration in 2007, French Lick Resort was born!
While we stayed at the West Baden Springs Hotel, we were pampered at the French Lick Resort’s Spa, ate at several yummy spots on the resort grounds and basically had the time of our lives! Outside the West Baden Springs Hotel is the Gardens, a gorgeously landscaped Pinterest-worthy spot to soak up all the relaxation you can and to see parts of the basins that were once used for the mineral springs! We loved that the on-site trolleys will literally take you anywhere you need to go; from hotel to hotel, to the casino, to the horse stables, the winery, anywhere…even good old Mickey D’s if you’re feeling the craving! They stop at nothing to make your stay easy and fun!
We did take a trolley over to the French Lick Winery, had a fun wine tasting and purchased some bottles for ourselves. I totally recommend the Just Peachy wine (talk about yummy!). One of our evenings we had dinner at Sinclair's Restaurant which is inside West Baden Springs. The Sweet Lobster Fetuccini was so good! Sinclair’s is really fancy, so if you’re looking for an evening of high class, go there! After exploring the resort, drinking some wine, listening to some Jazz music being played, we hit up Xanadu Coffee & Creamery for some ice cream which was-THE BOMB! Every single place, every nook and cranny inside the resort is so pretty and well maintained, I just couldn’t get over that! They make you feel like royalty, too! To end the night we checked out the pool and hot tub which is open until midnight, total shocker there, and it was SO relaxing!
The next morning and whole day was just awesome and so relaxing. We started with breakfast at The Grand Colonnade Restaurant inside the French Lick Resort (love the fresh made waffles!) followed by a trip to the Spa! What a treat for anyone, but especially moms of toddlers to have three hours of total relaxation. Kara was amazing while giving me a Swedish massage, by the way! For the rest of our second day we explored The Gardens, snapped some photos, called our families, and checked out the casino before heading to dinner at 1875: The Steakhouse inside the French Lick Resort. Now, I don’t know if I can accurately describe how awesome this place is. Every single thing was amazing! I highly recommend the Baked Lobster Mac and Cheese, the salmon with a tangy mango sauce was sooooo good, and don’t get me started on the huge carrot cake we split for dessert… Oh Em Gee!
After that dinner we were pretty wiped out and decided to try to get some work done before we went to bed, but even in the room it was so nice to be able to open our balcony doors to all the happenings below and just enjoy how beautiful the view is! We also loved checking out all the shops that are inside French Lick as we were on our way to the casino, there are soooo many options! Although we didn’t golf, the Pete Dye Gold Course looks amazing and we know our husbands will love it during our next visit as well as all the fun hiking trails they have on the resort!
Conclusion: The West Baden Springs Hotel and French Lick Resort is a place not only for casino goers, but moms who need a #momcation, bridal parties, golfers, and most of all families! I really can’t WAIT to visit again in December with our kiddos and grandparents for The Polar Express!
