I’m finally getting our Cancun post up! Actually give me a little credit because we got home to two kiddos who missed us like crazy three days ago so I’m feeling pretty good about it, haha! These past two days have been all about cuddling, getting back into the swing of things, and laundry-lots of laundry.
Today I’ll be sharing about the resort we stayed at in Cancun; The Haven Riviera Cancun Resort. I’m sharing what we loved about the resort, things to do and not do, our favorite spots and activities and so on… along with links for some of the outfits I shared because lots of people were asking and it’s way easier for me to do here! Ready?…Ok, me too, let’s go…
We stayed at the Haven Riviera Cancun Resort the entire time we were on vacation and YES, you will want to stay here, too. So, as you can see from photos, Haven Riviera is gorgeous. If you’re looking for an Instagramable vacation spot in the Caribbean, Haven Riviera is it! There is not a single place that isn’t beautiful. From the main lobby to all the restaurants, to the rooms, to the beach…everything is so pretty and well maintained.
One of the huge perks of choosing Haven Riviera is the distance from the Cancun International Airport. The entire ride to and from took us less than 15 minutes! We were shocked because visiting other all-inclusive resorts prior, some airport transfers have been over an hour! That’s a loooong time when you’ve already had a day of travel and are ready to relax and enjoy your time. Having such a short commute sold us right away. On the property there are 333 suites, all of which offer a minimum of 600 square feet of space and private terrace or balcony to start your relaxing stay, too.
We started our stay on the 2nd floor that overlooked the round pool. We loved our room which we could see the ocean, the gorgeous pool, we had a jacuzzi on our terrace and everything was immaculate. We loved that all of the conveniences we are used to were there in the room. We had amazing air conditioning (we didn’t notice any difference at all and the air was never turned off by employees like we’ve had happen at other resorts), great water pressure in the shower, a mini refrigerator, access to ice, a king sized bed with an amazing mattress, and a big tv with Netflix and cable!
In the middle of our stay we were switched to a swim-out room in the same building two floors down. Now, from experience in staying in both types of rooms during the same week, I can confidently say that the swim-out rooms are where it’s at! Our swim-out room was exactly the same as our previous room except we of course had a private swim out patio instead of a terrace with a jacuzzi. The main reason we loved our swim-out room so much is because the two main pools close at 7pm. Basically everyone swims until 7, goes to their room to shower and get ready for dinner, goes to dinner, then to Lime’s Bar or the Lobby Bar to end the night…or to Moon’s Cabaret for a show and dancing! We wanted to keep swimming throughout the night sometimes but understood why the pools closed. Once we had our swim-out room we were so excited to be able to swim whenever we wanted into the night! The night swims were some of our favorite take aways from the trip! In the mornings the swim out patios were shaded too which was so great because we could be in the water with guaranteed shade when we needed it! We had been living at the round pool and the sun was on us the whole time, which was fine and expected, but at the same time it was nice to be able to have our own area!
Some things we loved right off the bat about Haven was how they considered all the things customers love and incorporated them into one resort. For example they offer a pillow menu so you can get whatever kind of pillow you need and are used to, they offer aromatherapy for your room each day, you’re able to customize your minibar each day to your liking, room service is 24/7, there are several options for food, you don’t have to worry about being downsized to a double sized bed for couples…you’re guaranteed a king sized bed. Something we noticed A LOT were all the employees there to help and assist us! Apparently the industry standard for luxury hotels is 1 employee for every 5 guests per guest room and Haven presents a 2:1 ratio, surpassing the industry standard! There was never a time we didn’t have someone there to help us find something or show us the way to wherever. Every single employee was beyond kind, too…I’m not even kidding-not a single negative experience.
Let’s talk benefits. On the resort it is all-inclusive and everything is amazing! There is an added option of the Serenity Club. All Serenity Club guests are guaranteed an oceanfront room with ocean views, a private and personalized check-in/check-out experience, butler is available 24/7, and Serenity Lounge access. We loved being greeted with our favorite drink at check-in, having the ability to have our butler anytime, and being able to experience hydrotherapy at the spa once a day! Yep, that’s right, as a Serenity Club guest you can do hydrotherapy once a day at not additional spa charge. I’m not kidding you that the hydrotherapy is a game changer. So what is hydrotherapy? I’m no expert in terms or anything but it’s water therapy. There are stations that work different muscles that you do followed by a sauna experience and a head + shoulder massage plus you have access to their locker rooms and such! Scott and I loved it and started each morning with it before or after breakfast.
The pools! The are too huge pools on the property; the round pool and the main pool. The main pool is fun and has music playing from a DJ on Friday and Saturdays. There is a swim up bar and a warmed jacuzzi. The round pool is quieter, has a swim up bar as well, and is where we loved to be! The views from the pools are amazing, all ocean! There are gorgeous cabanas and lounge chairs lining the pools and something we adored is that we never once had to struggle or fight to find a place to relax or sit our stuff. There are so many available!
Are you a foodie? We loved all the food choices at Haven Riviera. They have dinner choices of a Mexican steakhouse, a vibrant Asian fusion restaurant, and a Mediterranean restaurant, along with a plentiful Marketplace and casual grill for lunch, and an amazing breakfast selection that can be delivered by room service or at their Flavours restaurant. On top of that they have snack and coffee areas, too!
So what did we love for our meals and snacks?
Breakfast was always great. We ordered room service a couple times but really enjoyed walking to the restaurant then to hydrotherapy afterwards. There was always something new each morning but most of the time I went with a fresh made pancake, fresh cut fruit, fresh squeezed orange juice, and yogurt.
For lunch we loved walking to Mistral, the grill, for awesome cheeseburgers, hot dogs, and fries along with salads and drinks. They have other stuff too but we stuck to things we love. As a Serenity guest we also had access to Vistas, which is the restaurant attached to the round pool. We both loved their guac and fresh made salsa that came with freshly baked chips and their tacos are the best!
For dinner we tried all the different options and everything wowed us. Olios is the Mediterranean option and it really feels like you’ve been transported to Greece! The decor is gorgeous and you’re overlooking the ocean from all the seats. Scott loved the wagyu steak and the sea bass was perfect for me! You do need to remember that men are to wear long pants and close-toed shoes to Olios so keep that in mind when packing! At Satsu, the Asian fusion restaurant, they offer hibachi which is one of our favorites and it did NOT disappoint. If you’re familiar at all with yum-yum sauce…the answer is yes, they have it! We had a second dinner there too and loved it as well. I highly recommend trying their vegetable spring rolls with the sauce it comes with…yum! Agua Bentita is their Mexican steakhouse and we had our favorite dinner of the trip there! We went twice and the first time we tried a lot of things we wouldn’t have tried back home like a plantain and cream cheese dish which-you must get! The second time we dined there I got the salmon loin and, wow…get in my belly! Scott loved the steak and the poblano macaroni dish. They have a toast appetizer that was our favorite too!
Drinks! Something we have noticed at other resorts that are all-inclusive is that our drinks seem to be really watered down and not strong at all. That’s not the case at Haven Riviera. They make the drinks right in front of you and they do not skim on the alcohol! Now, we didn’t choose and all-inclusive resort just to go get wasted, let me make that clear! We loved that the drinks were strong but they were also just so good. At Lime’s Bar there is an actual mixologist and Scott loved being able to just ask him to make up something with “insert alcohol choice here”, and he’d make something amazing and so unique every single time! Lime’s is like a little hidden gem at Haven’s! We went every night and loved it.
As for wifi and tv service it was great! The wifi is super fast, we noticed no difference at all from home, and is available throughout the entire resort. We happily used wifi to listen to music, check social media, connect with the kiddos, etc. when we were in our room, walking around the resort, in all the restaurants, and when lounging by the pool! I was uploading videos for my Instagram Stories the entire time and had zero issues. I notice sometimes when I’m just on my normal LTE network that videos, especially multiple, can take so long or get jumbled up, but I never had a single issue. The tv has Netflix access which was beyond perfect, along with cable and all that. I loved being able to binge watch the same shows we would have at home. All the amenities we had that we’re used to back home just made the vacation that much better. It never felt like we were disconnected from home.
Two things I don’t want to forget to chat about… The coffee shop and the on-resort store. So the coffee shop, Mocaccino, is awesome. They’re open until 10 or 11pm, I cant remember 100% but it’s late! I would go all the time and pick up a mudslide drink! The coffee shop also offers yummy ice cream and salads and cakes! Now to the shop. I loved the shop because it has gorgeous swim cover ups (I wanted them all) and pretty souvenirs and toys for kids to take home. They even sell sunglasses for if yours break, feminine items if you need it, sunscreen, and cigars! Scott loved enjoying a cuban cigar on the patio of Lime’s after dinner one night!
When we stayed:
June is smack dab in the middle of their off season so you’re able to book your stay for less. I’m sure there are reasons why it’s considered off season but we had zero issues. The weather was perfect and not overly hot or muggy at all. We would totally go back during the off season again!
What we loved:
While we love our kiddos, we went on a childless vacation for a reason!
We loved the ease of having everything at our fingertips at all times. It was so easy to get whatever we needed or wanted at any time!
Airport travel time
15 minutes, folks…need I say more?
24/7 room service
We ordered breakfast twice and dinner twice along with lunch once from room service. Everything was so good and fresh and took little time overall.
Swim up bars
These are huge for us as we loved actually being in the water more than laying by it. However, if you do love to lounge by the pool and relax there are waiters who are ALWAYS checking on you and bringing you whatever you need.
You are welcomed to purchase a spa treatment and get the hydrotherapy however as a Serenity guest you’re allowed one hydrotherapy session per day. It’s an amazing way to begin your day and work out all your kinks!
What to keep in mind:
For some reason I ended up packing three bottles of sunscreen in our carry-on luggage and it had to be thrown out. We recommend packing sunscreen in your checked bag because we did have to purchase a bottle at the store on the resort property and it was $25.00!
Bring water shoes
Ok we wanted water shoes solely for the tile. The tile when it gets wet is slippery. It’s beautiful but slippery and I wished a couple times that I had water shoes just to walk around the main part of the lobby in. The flooring around the pools aren’t slippery at all or around the walking areas of most of the resort but on the way to the rooms and in the main lobby area the tiles do get slippery.
