I shared on Instagram some thoughts the other day and have had so many personal messages sent to me, I have been loving connecting with people! I shared a couple books that I’m reading right now along with a devotional and what I have started doing each night in an attempt to deepen my faith and learn more about Jesus. Now let me tell you before I come off like I have been doing this forever and am always into it, I haven’t and I'm not. I started this because after about a year and a half of following Christ and knowing, feeling something was seriously missing, I needed to start doing something, anything, to make myself focus on my alone time with God. These have all helped me have a more clear mind and be intentional about my time!
Here is what I have been reading and taking time with recently:
Mom Up (here)
This book is about me. Not really but things are so similar in regards to the author being a mom, suffering from anxiety + depression, being a blogger… the list goes on and on, so I immediately clicked with it. So far I have loved the honesty and the realization that I’m not alone in my struggles and that God has the power to keep me from them. Highly recommend if you’re a mama!
Pressing Pause (here)
Karen Ehman + Ruth Schwenk
I like this devotional because it’s not dated making me feel like I have to read it each day. There are places to write your thoughts down along with a prayer and a thought to spark your response!
100 Days To Brave (here)
Annie F. Downs
I love the author and have followed her for some time on social media and have been loving this little book/devotional. Each day there is scripture followed by a story of bravery or something related to how we are being brave without even realizing it until after the fact! It’s helping me see that even the smallest acts can be life changing.
Sex, Jesus, and the Conversations the Church Forgot (here)
This book caught my attention of course because it’s talking about sex! I am lucky in that my church is open about this topic but apparently not all churches are like that. I have loved the author’s openness about her own intimacy journey and how she deeply dives into the true meaning of what sex was made for and how to glorify God with it. I have been highlighting and bookmarking my way through it to save for later when I get to explain to the kids with the sex talk.
The Message (here)
Eugene H. Peterson
This is my go-to Bible. I love the plain English and the way the author helps me understand the context behind what was going on at that time and how it relates to me now in 2019. As I go to church each week, to my women’s group, read through my devotionals, etc. I go through and read and highlight in The Message and have been feeling so inspired because I can understand the verbiage better.
Own Your Everyday (here)
Jordan Lee Dooley
I have been following Jordan for a long time on social media as well, have attended a couple of her speaking events and love all the ways she builds others up! I was hesitant to get her book though because, well let’s be honest, she’s a lot younger than me, not a mama, just a lot of things are different. I have to say that I have been loving this book and am so impressed by the way she is able to make me feel like we are just a couple of friends chatting about life. I have already taken away so much and am excited to finish this one!
In Everything Prayer Journal (here)
The Daily Grace Co.
I found this company recently and immediately feel in love with everything! I wanted it all, but my bank account didn’t like that. Haha! One thing I did order and have been loving is this prayer journal. Now I know-yes anything can be a prayer journal! I get that but I also love the design and the ease of having everything spelled out for me. This journal lists a place for the date, your prayer, what you’re asking for from God, along with a spot for the date this prayer was answered! I just love that part so much. I can see that this will help me remember and be able to look back on my history with Jesus and be comforted in knowing what He already has done for me!
