The Influencer: What Is A Social Media Influencer?

Congratulations, if you're reading this, you now know the title of my job!  Go you!  If you haven't heard of influencing as a career then I welcome you to take a peek here.  If you have heard of it, want to start your influencing journey, or are just curious as to what I do, stay tuned.

So what is an Social Media Influencer?

  • An influencer is a user on social media platforms {Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Blog} who has established their credibility in a specific industry. An influencer has access to an engaged audience and can sway others by their authenticity and reach.
  • Brands partner with influencers to promote their products or services.  The principle behind influencer marketing isn’t new. Brands have been using celebrity endorsers for years because they used to be a real way of reaching people and holding their attention.
  • Why do brands choose Social Media Influencers over ads in a magazine or television commercials?  Think about it... Not everyone watches tv or reads magazines.  Some people only watch Netflix and see no commercials!  Almost everyone has some form of social media these days and is active on it.  With social media you get to pick and choose who you follow and what you like to see.  If you're following someone because you like his or her style, photography, home decor, humor, or whatever other reason, you're likely to be drawn to the same things they are.  That's the perfect opportunity for that influencer (who let's remember is a person, too!) to pass along a product they love or a service they've benefited from!  Influencers aren't (hopefully) pushing products on their audience that they wouldn't really use.  People, just like me, follow people on social media because they WANT to see things about their life and enjoy it.  There is much more of a personal connection there.  You're able to comment on their photos and they'll most likely comment back to you!

I've read that in 2017 $10.3 billion was spent on social media marketing and that in 2018 that number is projected to be at $19.7 billion!  It only makes sense to dip into that pot.  Being a social media influencer has allowed me to quit my full-time career, stay at home and raise my two babies, allowed me countless opportunities locally and beyond.  It's allowed my husband to be able to pursue amazing avenues in his own career that may have been very difficult with both parents working full-time schedules outside of the home and juggling our lives.  This career has been a blessing in so many ways.
