With summer coming to an end I really am looking forward to finding some fun things to do with Emily (and Brody of course) that don't include water. Living in Indiana there are definitely four seasons and Fall is by far my favorite! I'll be sharing 10 simple, fun, and CHEAP activities to do with toddlers today.
Something I try to always remember is that children aren't going to remember the amount of money you spent on them but they will remember the amount of time you spent with them. Most of these activities cost nothing to maybe $5! It's all about taking quality time from our busy days to take in all of the toddler goodness that we all know is going to fade away before we know it!
- PAJAMA PARTY
We literally will play in Emily's room for hours in our pjs. There's just something easy about making it special when we say it's a pajama party. Emily is at the age where she loves playing pretend and enjoys being the boss so it works out perfectly when she gets to tell me what to do, haha!
- PICNIC IN THE YARD
With the weather cooling down a bit we can actually stand to be outside for a bit so we're taking full advantage! I love making dinner time special simply by going outside together with no distractions and enjoying the time with my babies.
- COLOR WHILE TAKING DIRECTION
I really enjoy letting Emily express herself and one way she does that is through art. In her little school bus box she has crayons, painting markers, colored pencils, and regular markers. I love having all the different types of coloring pieces so she can see how things are different. She really gets a kick out of coloring with a marker over a design I drew with a white crayon since the crayon comes through the marker. She thinks it's so neat!
- BUILD A TOWER USING YOUR COLORS
This activity might seem silly but we really love it. Emily is always trying to build higher and higher towers and gets so excited when she makes a really tall one. I just love our time together while she builds and takes instruction.
- HAVE A MODERN "TEA PARTY"
Another way we like make dinner time special is by having an indoor tea party. Instead of having fake food and tea we use our juice and dinner in its place. Doing this allows Emily to forget she's eating her dinner (since that's usually the last thing on her mind) and just have fun!
- PAINT USING DIFFERENT SIZE BRUSHES
Emily loves to paint! I love trying to teach her about different sizes and comparisons with brushs that are different sizes. She really likes to paint designs with smaller brushes!
- STICKER SORTING
We tape up 3-4 different colored construction papers on the wall and give Emily stickers that match those colors. She sticks them to the paper matching them! A lot of times once she's done we'll count how many stickers there are.
- FRUIT LOOP SORTING
This activiy can be super fun but sometimes it turns into such a game. Emily loves fruit loops, what kid doesn't right?!, so I'll put some fruit loops in a bowl, draw circles in the same colors as her fruit loops on paper, and she'll play the sorting and counting game! A lot of times she plays a game and eats all the silly fruit loops before she's done sorting though!
- MEGABLOCK POMPOM SORTING
This activity is pretty fun, takes up a good amount of time, and is cheap! We all have those huge mega blocks, right. Basically you turn those blocks upside down, get some pompoms out (usually around $3-$5 for a pack), and you play the sorting game!
- POMPOM DROP
Both of my kiddos like this game! Tape a couple of old toilet paper rolls to the wall at kiddo height, grab your pompoms and let the babes drop them through. I'm not kidding you, they'll love it!
