California, I Sort Of MIss You?
Oh my goodness, where to start. Well, I was so graciously invited by JuJuBe to attend a new release party as one of their Content Creators this past weekend and of course I jumped at the chance! My husband wasn't able to go so my friend, Sabrena, came along with me!
So everyone would think, you know, mom's weekend away, this is going to be so much fun and stress free, right!? Maybe, just maybe, if we hadn't gone to the hell called Los Angeles. I tell you what, from landing, waiting on the tarmac for 45 minutes, another hour on the plane due to the man next to us having back problems, figuring out how to even get to our rental car before our five hour drive to Newport Beach to our hotel, then the super weird and cruddy service at The Cantina for dinner, we were 110% ready to pack up and go back home.
Luckily, the hotel room was clean, beds were semi comfortable, and we were beyond exhausted so we slept well. Once we were awake and ready to go our day was pretty much just a free for all until our JuJuBe event in the evening, We decided to try to find a beach and an In-N-Out Burger place for lunch since all Californians rave about it.
We found a super cute beach area in Laguna with parking for cheap which we quickly learned is a rarity on good old California. We thought it felt great outside but maybe it was too cool for the locals since no one was there. We were able to take some photos, have some fun, and relax.
While we were in Laguna Beach we found an In-N-Out Burger! It was fantastic and the cashier was pretty much the nicest stranger we met the entire trip. Sabrena had heard to make sure to order "the double-double, animal style" which we both did and...YUM.
On the advice of our In-N-Out Burger friend we stopped by Victoria Beach on the way back to our hotel. This was an awesome and beautiful place but I never want to go back! While we were there, I was running from a wave and tore the muscles in my calf! I could hardly walk, was limping around like my leg was broken, and Sabrena was having to literally take care of me the entire time. I thank God that she brought her Essential Oils because there is no doubt in my mind that those helped tremendously! I couldn't believe it, three hours to go until our JuJuBe event started, the whole reason we came out to California, and I can't even walk! After we stopped at a pharmacy for ice packs and bandages we went back to our hotel room, got ready for the event, and left. I was shocked that heels didn't hurt my calf, they actually made it feel better with my muscles not having to be elongated over and over.
The JuJuBe event was amazing! They took us all on a huge yacht, had the champagne flowing, an awesome DJ, three new pattern releases and giveaways! It was so so fun being able to meet face to face some of my Instagram friends and fellow mamas as well as the founder of JuJuBe, I mean, seriously!? After the event ended, of course we crashed.
On our last day we wanted to visit the ever so famous Paul Smith Pink Wall on Melrose. I've seen photos of this silly wall all over social media and it's kind of like a staple/must see when you're in Los Angeles from what I could gather. Once we get to the wall, we park but ended up parking in a red zone, accidentally paying the meter for the guy who parked behind us as we were getting out of our car and who was a total butt when we tried to ask him a simple question.
Anyway, we moved, eventually found free close parking and made our way to the pink wall!! It was so fun seeing lots of other people coming and going from the wall too. It really IS like a landmark of LA! There is a super cute little café across the street too, Carrera Café, where we grabbed some goodies and left for the airport.
What did I take away from my super short time in California? Well, Los Angeles people are super rude, giving wrong information on purpose it seemed like, and not caring about anyone other than themselves. Newport Beach is nice. Laguna Beach is where it's at! We loved everything about Laguna Beach. Everything was clean, people were nice and that's all it takes to keep us Midwestern mamas happy!
When our weekend started we were ready to go back home almost as soon as we arrived but by the time it was time to go home, I knew I was going to really miss the beaches Laguna had to offer. I wish I could bring the ocean and clean beaches back with me to Indiana, the walls and building for photography too! The humidity and rude people though, California can keep those and I'll stick with my nice Hoosiers.
